Question on Informix Client on Solaris

[Miss-Posted this the first time] When profiling an application esql/c application running on a Solarus box, I noticed that the CPU stayed at 100% and a large percentage of that time was spent in the getmsg() Informix call. After reading the group, I've seen discussion that indicated the Server might be polling, but does anyone know if the general behavior for the client is to poll? If so, can it be configured not to? Thanks in advance, Dave Edgerton

If so, can it be configured not to? No, clients should not be polling. HOWEVER, getmsg() is NOT an Informix library call but a UNIX system function used to read or poll a message queue. Informix does not use message queues in its libraries nor in the generated ESQL code. Your application must be trying to read a message queue in a loop until some message arrives or is calling a library function or yours that does. -- Art S. Kagel & Family kagel@erols.com
