<<Response to - Subject: Still no luck with permissions << <<NB: no-one except user informix should be logged into group informix, or <<have group informix as one of their supplementary groups. It blows any <<security if they do! << <<See also "Using Informix-SQL" by me for another explanation. <<It's published by Addison-Wesley. Ooops, sorry, that's a commercial. << <<Jonathan Leffler (johnl@obelix) Since security has been brought up.... In regard to security in informix perform screens. We have some special logins that we have developed where the user goes directly into a menu, which is a shell script upon login. We have them trapped into the menu with "trap " " 2 3" and they seemingly cannot delete out of the menus. But if they know how to ! out of the perform screen then they are out into the system. We want to limit the user, and to make things as easy for new users as possible taking them directly to the menu then directly into the screens necessary, but to provide as much security as possible. I was able at one time to prevent users from getting to the shell with ! but have forgotten and lost my notes. Tried to find my notes but the closest I could come was to find where we were setting stty quit '!', but that does not seem to work anymore, if it ever did. Anyone got any comments.
