Re: No Idea how to start the Informix-Server-Process on Solaris :(
Posted in 2000
Hi All,
With absolutely no offense to Art, or Obnoxio......(who are my
all time favorites in this group)... While I am a relative newbie to
this Newsgroup (+/- 2 years), I've been an Informix DBA since
1989......
I kind of find it Vile that people don't look harder for
direction.
I mean, it's gott'a be harder to find this newsgroup and ask a
question as a newbie than it is to open a book. C'mon people, I'm no
Informix Rocket Scientist, but after the 10+ years I've been doing
this, my first reaction is to RTFM...
While I'll never be on par with the likes of those who
answered above, I still struggle with the fact that the guy just had
to read another page or two into the manual....
I mean, c'mon. what do you really need to get Informix to come
up?
PATH set?
INFORMIXSERVER set?
ONCONFIG set?
SQLHOSTS set?(if not the default)
ROOTPATH set?ARE Permissions on the devices set(raw or cooked)? (660
informix:infofrmix);
How about you give a snapshot or two of the online.log?
Have you tried once with the same SERVERNUM? Maybe you just have to
ipcs........If you don't know ipcs, then change the SERVERNUM....the
'ol 0X5256 will remain with me throughout history.....
Isn't there a FAQ for this group......? I believe there is.
gdamn, it's in the first few chapters..........(sorry to those I've
offended)...I read this newsgroup just to see what Art and 'The Clown'
have to say......
