Moving a DB from SCO to Sun and RAID 1+0 config help
Posted in 2000
We finally got the go ahead to separate the applications from the Informix 7.3 DB. We currently are running everything on a SCO OpenServer Raid 5 box with 75 gig. Due to Art K posts about RAID 5, we convinced mgmt to split the load and do a raid 1+0. The bad news is no one over here is an Informix DBA. We are all newbies at this. My question is how many stripes should I configure. The Sun box will have 200gig of usable space with raid 1+0. Should I make the 200 gig one large disk of all 2 gig chunks? Or should I have 3 striped drives, one for rootdbs, logs and the last for data? The Sun is also new to us, so should I be ordering Veritas Volume Manager to handle all those 2 gig chunks? Last question (for now), what software besides 7.3 engine is needed on the Sun box. There will be no apps on it, just the DB. Thanks all Gary Quiring
