Relocating raw partitions

I need to move the raw partitions that Informix is using to span more than the one drive they are on. Running under SCO Unix. What is the best way possible to do this? Should I just use OS level commands to duplicate the partitions on different drives or is there a better way to do this using native Informix tools? Then use links to point to the new location. -- ------------------------------------------------- With best regards, Yuri Dovgart SAP R/3, Informix technical consultant, Informix Certified Professional, Senior System Consultant System Architecture and High Availability Systems, 'Telecominvest' company Email y_dovgart@tci.ukrtel.net ICQ 39284285 > > Geoff > > -- > a paranoid is just someone with all of the facts at his disposal > - william seaward burroughs 1914-1997 > > Geoff M. Geoff, I'm not sure of the tools available to do this on SCO. But, on AIX systems we use a system utility called smit to create logical volumes which are spread across several physical volumes. Next, we create unix soft links (ln command) to these logical volumes. Then, we create our Informix dbspaces on these logical volumes, using the soft links we've defined. This can help you get nice gains in I/O and performance. Take a level zero Informix archive before you start as a safety precaution (judging by your sig I suppose I don't have to say that but I'm paranoid ;-) Then copy the original devices to the new one, relink the links that Informix uses for its chunknames (you DID use links didn't you? else you are hosed), and restart the engine.
