ISAM error 197: Partition recently appended to
Posted in 2011
A user on IDS 9.40.UC5 (SUSE Linux) hit "242: Could not open database table" with "ISAM error 197: Partition recently appended to; can't open for write or logging" when inserting into a table joined across a remote database. Suggestions: the flag is typically set after an HPL/express load, so a level-0 backup is needed first — but the user's level-0 to /dev/null didn't clear it. Art Kagel advised unloading, dropping and recreating/reloading the table (and upgrading, since 9.40 is out of support); John Miller gave a sysmaster query (sysptnhdr flags bit 0x8000) to find affected tables, noting known bugs with this flag in v9 and that HDR may keep it off. No confirmation of a fix is recorded.

Hi All,
Following is the error which we getting when we try to run the below query.
QUERY:
insert into op_vehicle_color (typsoacode, make_color_id, color_order_code,
color_info_date)
select tsaf.TypSOACode, sa_farben_id, sa_farben_bestellcode, sa_farbinfo_vom
from uno_test2_ro@uno_edit_t2:typ_ausstattung_farben_e tsaf, op_vehicle_optionovo
where tsaf.TypSOACode = ovo.typsoacode
ERROR:
242: Could not open database table (unodba.op_vehicle_option).
197: ISAM error: Partition recently appended to; can't open for write or
logging.
Please help us to resolve this.
Regards,
Sushant
Did you recently run an HPL or some type of load against the table(s)
(unodba.op_vehicle_option), which may need a backup before using?
Thanks,

Informix Dynamic Server Version 9.40.UC5 SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (i586) I have done a level 0 backup directed to /dev/null and tried again. still it is throwing the same error.
As you are aware, IDS 9.40 is out-of-support, so my best suggestion (call IBM) is not an option unless you contracted for Extended Support 20 months ago when that happened. If the table is empty, drop it and recreate it. If it is not, unload the data, drop, recreate, and reload the data. Then make a serious effort to consider upgrading to a supported version. The currently supported releases are: 10.00 (goes out-of-support this coming October, so not a real option), 11.10 (has about 15 months of life left, also not an valid option), 11.50, 11.70. Version 11.50 is inot the .xC9 release IB, and is rock solid. Version 11.70 is now into the .xC2 release which seems to be stable. No major problems that cannot be worked around overall though ADTC's Fastest DBA contest saw some performance degradation versus 11.50 on RHEL5 under heavy load (1000 concurrent OLTP users). Vers 11.70 has several new features over 11.50 that are worth considering anyway. Art Art S. To find out if tables have this flag on, you can run the
following select. There are several issues with this
flag that happened in version 9. Are you running HDR,
I believe this will keep the flag off.
select *
FROM sysmaster:systabnames T, sysmaster:sysptnhdr PT
WHERE pt.partnum =3D T.partnum
AND bitval(flags,'0x8000') > 1
