Transfering redbrick database from UNIX to Win

Hello, I have a question about moving a 350 GIG redbrick database from a UNIX platform to a Windows platform. Were contemplating 2 ways of moving the data: 1) Unload the data on the UNIX machine then use FTP in binary mode to transfer the files to the Windows server. 2) To create a redbrick ODBC connection on the windows server then use the risql entry tool to extract the data files directly on the server. Should both of these ideas work? Can someone recommend one or the other? Thank You Anthony Leonard

If you're at 6.20, I'd use TMU to unload (probably in external format) and pipe the output right back into another remote CTMU process to directly load the new tables without ever producing a file at all; the trick is to unload to stdout: unload table_name external outputfile '-' The new client loader program is called rb_ctmu, so the command would look roughly like this: rb_tmu -d db_name tmu_file $RB_USER | rb_ctmu -s odbc_win_db_name etc... There's a new section in the TMU guide on how to use CTMU. http://publibfi.boulder.ibm.com/epubs/pdf/9055.pdf You'll need to set up your .odbc.ini file on the unix box with the win box odbc address and db name. A sample odbc.ini (without the leading dot) should be there on the unix server as a sample. That's if I thought it was sane to do it at all, which I don't. I'm guessing someone on high thought it would be cheaper to do it in Windows? P.S. There's a redbrick specific mailing list you can sign up for at the iiug website in case you didn't know. I just wish it had a usenet gateway like this one does.
