There is a program called su_ontape available in source (C) form in the
IIUG archives which essentially does a temporary suid to informix and does
the change. You can selectively comment out the use of certain "dangerous"
switches in it. I have used it before in a script which the testers used,
and which did mass deletes, inserts and updates and I used to to turn off
logging before the script ran and turn it on after. You would need to set
your TAPEDEV to /dev/null, however.
You can also look at a (new?) Informix utility called ondblog which changes
the logging mode. I have never used it, so if it needs user informix to run
it, you can wrap it in a similar SUID wrapper.

Subject: logging mode
Hello Gurus!
We have informix 7.30 in our HP-Box with development and test
application.
We have lot of databases and the programmers want to change the logging
mode quite
frequently. Our company would not like to give informix password to all
developers.
So is there are a script or a utility to change the logging status of
the database by individual
users-the users who own the databases.
thanks
Mike
