Newbie question-please don't shoot me

I have a newbie question. Please pardon my lack of knowledge with this. I have
a Unix server (HP) that houses 2 9.4 Informix database servers (IE: there are
2 separate onconfig files that have unique INFORMIXSERVER parm values). The
informix engine stopped (I think because the unix machine was brought down and
for some reason (not known yet) the automatic startup scripts did not work.
Now for my very stupid question. In order to start up the databaees I will use
oninit to start the servers (oninit witn NO flags). I need to set the ONCONFIG
and INFORMIXSERVER environment vars first to point to onconfig file1 and
INFORMIXSERVER 1 and the run oninit.....and then repeat that for the second
ONCONFIG and INFORMIXSERVER-is that correct?
In other words...
1) set unix ONCONFIG to point to onconfig file1
2) set unix INFORMIXSERVER to point to Informix Informix database server1
3) oninit
4) set unix ONCONFIG to point to onconfig file2
5) set unix INFORMIXSERVER to point to Informix Informix database server2
6) oninit
Please pardon my beginner question here and thank you IIUG.

Hi Will,
That is correct (assuming INFORMIXDIR is the same for both instances).
In case the instance is already up, oninit will terminate with an error,
so you can do nothing wrong.
To see what is happening, you could use oninit -v (in this case IDS
leaves a filedescriptor open to your actual terminal, so when you are
connected via ssh/telnet and not from console, a logout will hang, but
it is save to close the connection).
