Handling changing page lengths / 4GL reports

I'm interested in hearing how others have addressed this problem I'm experiencing: Users here want to be able to select an output printer for their report from one of several, incl. HP LASER, DataProducts Lineprinter, etc. The report that's giving me the trouble is one that uses "SKIP TO TOP OF PAGE" in a control block The trouble is that Informix seems to want to calculate the number of lines remaining and print blank lines to get to TOF instead of issuing one formfeed (ascii 12) This causes printers with various page lengths to get misaligned if the page length is not exactly right (as specified in OUTPUT section) I've tried printing ASCII 12 on PAGE TRAILER, just gives me blank pages intermixed with text... and you can't pass the page length along as an argument THe only solution seems to be to have multiple copies of the program, each with a page length set for some target printer, and to call these as requested... seems inelegant, tho, and there MUST be a better way...
