WANTED: Alternatives to VPPRO for rapid and easy report creation (Delphi, PowerBuilder or Crystal Reports?)

Having discovered that VPPRO cannot OUTPUT or UNLOAD the contents of temporary tables, nor can it print from the code or output sections of its SQL Direct Entry window, its value has become extremely limited. In a tech support call to Informix last week, I was told that my request to print would be added as an "enhancement request". #$&@^#%! Can you imagine MS saying that Excel is fine, since the spreadsheet works, but that you can't print spreadsheets? I got a chuckle from the Manager of Tech Support when I said that Informix' response resembles what Ford probably said to it's customers about their insistance that their Pintos not explode in a low-speed rear-end collision. I also was told that my odds of my "enhancement request" being implemented were less likely than my winning the state lottery. Thus, I NEED TO DUMP VPPRO FOR SOMETHING THAT ACTUALLY WORKS. What I want is a client application that would permit me to easily enter SQL and/or generate reports. Ideally, this application should be easy for a non-programmer to use, in order to generate ad hoc reports. (Although I can program, the idea is to enable me to transition ad hoc reports to the end-users so I can do more productive work.) I have heard good things about Delphi & Powerbuilder. I don't know much about Crystal Reports. VPPRO is Informix' Edsel.
