Our objections: * Create a set of tools to make the everyday tasks of Informix DBA's easier and faster. * Write tools with a good, consistent interface. * Write tools that are portable to almost all UNIX platforms. * Write tools to assist those still using Informix Online 4.x, 5.x, and 6.x as well as the current 7.x (8.x coming soon). For a detailed look at the tools, or to apply to be a beta tester, check out the following web site: >>>> http://www.gate.net/~ztools <<<< Tool Brief description -------------------------------------------------------------------------- z_load - Table loader (parallel processes, auto uncompression,..) z_unload - Table unloader (parallel processes, auto compression,..) z_import - Database importer (parallel processes, auto compression,..) z_export - Database exporter (parallel processes, auto uncompression,..) z_archtool - Archive utility (auto compression, unattended execution,..) z_schema - Schema utility (striping of extraneous info, sorted output,..) z_web - Convert database schema to HTML document (see sample at WWW) z_truncate - Table truncate utility (purges the contents of a table fast) z_perm - Permissions utility (clone, copy, and change permissions fast) z_space - Dbspace reporter (space used by table,space,db,dbspace,..) z_scan - Error / Syslog utility (hooks online.log to syslog) z_leave - Data interleaving utility (see web page for details) z_autobuild- Generates script that will rebuild entire Informix instance Some of these tools will be ready for beta testing in the next 2-4 weeks. The official release is scheduled for around March or April. Prices for the final product have not yet been set. More information will be posted soon on the ztools web page and on comp.databases.informix. We are seeking beta testers that use Informix On-line in their day to day jobs. Beta testers that contribute to the quality of the software will receive substantial discounts on the final product and will get to use the software during the evaluation period.
