I need some useful help about informix for linux.
Yesterday I installed the Informix Dynamic Server
7.3 on an RH6 linux machine with shadow password.
My sqlhost file contains the following lines:
on_hedi onipcshm hedi.csoft.ro on_servername
on_hedi onsoctcp hedi.csoft.ro sqlturbo
The environment variables were set and sqlturbo
was in the services file 1526/tcp.
After starting and initialization with oninit -isy
I turned on the on-line mode and I tried to
connect to on_hedi server with dbaccess. There was
always the same error message:
952: User's password is not correct for thedatabase server.
No such file or directory.
What's wrong? Any useful comment are welcome...

I don't know whether it's a useful comment, but there's a bug in
the product which means that it does not handle shadow passwords
oe MD5 passwords. I'm not sure of all the ins and outs of this,
but AFAIK, there isn't a fixed version available, so you have to
stop using shadow passwords.

Your sqlhosts should have different server names for the shm and tcp
connections, eg.
on_hedishm onipcshm hedi.csoft.ro on_servername
on_heditcp onsoctcp hedi.csoft.ro sqlturbo
and in your onconfig file DBSERVERNAME should be set to one of
these, while DBSERVERALIASES to the other, eg.
DBSERVERNAME on_hedishm
DBSERVERALIASES on_heditcp
Then set your INFORMIXSERVER environment var to either of these and try
again...
Hope this helps
