My simplified proc is:
create procedure test_proc (the_tab_id smallint)
define tab_name_var char(20);
select tabname into tab_name_var from systables where tabid = the_tab_id;
end procedure with listing in "c:\\tmp\\compile_errors";
the contents of compile_errors after creating the proc is:
Line 4: identifier(the_tab_id) is a variable, not a column

Did you create this using dbaccess?
Remember isql does NOT handle creating procedures!
>create procedure test_proc (the_tab_id smallint)
