I am a performance analyst at Pyramid Technology in San Jose, Pyramid serves the market with SMP (Symetric Multi Processor) and MPP (Massive Parallel Processor) platforms. I am here on long term assignment from Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme in Paderborn, Germany where I had 6 years experience of Informix product. For the duration of my stay here I will work in Customer Benchmarking. Because our business addresses the high end of the market and because we are at the forefront of benchmarking for major accounts, from time to time, I get to have a hand on the hot new stuff. A recent benchmark which I led had the following configuration... Hardware RM1000 42 Cells 175 nodes @ 200 Mhz (5 Boot nodes) 256 Mb per node 1008 * 4 Gb Disk Drives Software Informix 8.0 XPS Controlled Release on 166 CoServers Live Data Volume >1 Terabyte It was a real buzz working on the XPS benchmark and working with Informix employees from their ATG (Advanced Technology Group) as well other highly rated members of their staff. My own opinion on the version of XPS tested is that it is for the MPP platform and typical DSS application market and that it is an excellent product. As for features or enhancements, I am not qualified to comment on the final product as my experience was with a "controlled release" and I know that the Pyramid platform XPS release is scheduled for around September '96. I do remember using a "case structure" in a select statement as well as the select first 10 from foo where etc... The Informix Conference in Chicago will showcase the XPS release, along with other major developments, on Day 1 there is OnLine XPS tips and hints, Day 2 has a presentation from Pyramid's Chief Scientist, Rich Hammond entitled "Exploiting XPS using Pyramid's RM1000" which I will be attending ;-). There are also other conference lines on XPS well worth attending. I have some benchmarks using XPS in the pipeline at present and would certainly try to keep the newsgroup informed as to relevant observations if there is interest. Hope This Helps,
