Access from Informix to MS SQL Server
Posted in 1999
User asked how to load data directly from MS SQL Server on Windows NT into Informix on UNIX without unload/load. Responses suggested: WinSQL Professional (ODBC-based migration tool), OpenRDA product (ODBC connectivity for UNIX to Windows ODBC sources), and Java with JDBC drivers for both databases. No definitive resolution or outcome reported.

Hi, is there a way to use Informix on a UNIX box to load data directly from a MS SQL Server database on Windows NT into an Informix database on a UNIX box without having to do an unload/load? It wouldn't be a problem the other way round using Informix ODBC drivers on NT, but this is not a valid option in this case. Thanks in advance for your support. Regards, J'rgen Brosterhues
Hi Jurgen, Try WinSQL Professional at http://www.imranweb.com/freesoft. This utility can be used to migrate data from one source to another target and it uses ODBC. Thanks, Imran. Juergen, My company, Automation Technology Inc., has a solution for your data access needs. We provide ODBC connectivity between UNIX systems and ODBC compliant data sources on Windows NT (or 95). Our product consists of a C library and an Interactive SQL program that allow for SQL data access to SQL Server, MS Access or any ODBC compliant database on a Windows system. Our software will run on SCO, AIX, Solaris, HP-UX, OS/2 and OpenVMS systems on VAX or Alpha platforms. We are also looking into supporting Linux and UnixWare for the product. Please let me know if you would like more information on the software. The link to the OpenRDA product page on our web site is: http://www.atinet.com/Products/OpenRDA/Odbc_UNIX/ODBC_UNIX.asp Regards, Matt Bogumill mattb@atinet.com In article <7b6ktd$5av@news.dns.microsoft.com>, "Juergen Brosterhues" <jbroster@microsoft.com> wrote: > Hi, > > is there a way to use Informix on a UNIX box to load data directly from a MS > SQL Server database on Windows NT into an Informix database on a UNIX box > without having to do an unload/load? > > It wouldn't be a problem the other way round using Informix ODBC drivers on > NT, but this is not a valid option in this case. > > Thanks in advance for your support. > > Regards, > J'rgen Brosterhues > > -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own
Juergen, >> It wouldn't be a problem the other way round using Informix ODBC drivers on >> NT, but this is not a valid option in this case. >> I have had a bunch of problem linking an INFORMIX Database on an AIX Box from MS SQL 7.0. I used INFORMIX Connect Client and INTERSOLV OLE DB 2.0. Nothing is working. If you are successful in setting an INFORMIX linked server from MS SQL 7.0, please give me hand Thanks PN mattb@atinet.com wrote in message <7beptj$107$1@nnrp1.dejanews.com>... >Juergen, > >My company, Automation Technology Inc., has a solution for your data access >needs. If you have or can get JDBC drivers for your MS SQL Server machine, it's pretty trivial. You have a Java program that loads drivers for both databases, opens connections to both, then uses a PreparedStatement for insert off a resultset. I know there's a JDBC driver for Informix, because I have it. Dunno about SQL Server, but at a pinch you could use the JDBC-ODBC bridge stuff, I guess. The Java program can be run from the NT box, the unix box or a third box, it really doesn't matter. Not necessarily fast, but trivial. I do it with Oracle and Informix, Informix & Postgres, Oracle & Postgres. Peter Wiley
PN, We also support the AIX platform. Please check out the following web link for product information: http://www.atinet.com/Products/OpenRDA/Odbc_UNIX/ODBC_UNIX.asp I would be happy to set you up with an evaluation copy of the software if you are interested.
