In response to Cheryl Kendricks: After a short kickoff meeting - about 4 hours...we dove into the application framework (we have a VB front end that we are using as a guide). In about 2 hours we have what took 1 week in VB and Intersolv's VBX's. Of course having a consultant onsite took alot of the guesswork out of the development. (Even compiled into an executable) Pertaining to the MOTIF issues - we had a lengthly discussion with the consultant about future support. There is a new version (3.X) of New Era which will bring the the Motif support to the same level as the Windows product. Informix has several very large contracts which require Motif support, and they assure us (another large customer) that this will be the case. Motif version is at 1.01, so it currently does not have all the features of the Windows version. It is due 4Q 1996. Might be worth the wait. As it stand right now, if you are developing in Windows for a port, there are several things (fonts, colors, etc...) that you need to keep in mind because they do not translate smoothly. There supposedly are work arounds, though. Not all windows controls are supported in Motid widgets, so some care must be taken. We are very impressed with New Era. It is open and has some very powerful database features that are not available in a general programming lang. (such as VB.) Of course these are my opinions and statements and all the standard disclaimers apply. James Saville
