Daniel Willems, migrating Baan on Informix 7.30 from Windows NT to Unix (7.31), asked if an ontape archive could be restored on Unix. John Carlson and Noel Griffin said no: ontape works only on the same OS and version. Noel advised dbexport/dbimport, then update statistics (high if OPTCOMPIND=2). Jonathan Stowe agreed, noting it could go via tape.

Hello,
We're forced to migrate from NT to Unix.
We're using (BaaN IVc3 and) Informix 7.30tc7 and go to 7.31 under Unix.
If we use ontape -s ... (Windows NT) can we do an ontape -r (Unix) ?

No, I'd doubt it. You can only do ontape archive / restores between the
same OS and the same Informix revision level.

Hi Daniel
No You cannot use 'ontape' to migrate from one platform to another. Use
'dbexport/dbimport' and then run 'update statistics' ('high' if you use
OPTCOMPIND=2).

You will need to be using dbexport on the one machine and dbimport on the
other - you should be able to do this straight to and from a tape.

Come on, Marge, I want to shake off the dust of this one-horse town. I
want to explore the world. I want to watch TV in a different time zone. I
want to visit strange, exotic malls. I'm sick of eating hoagies. I want
a grinder, a sub, a foot-long hero...I want to live, Marge! Won't you
let me _live_? Won't you please?!
