How to load a MS Word document into a Text field

I am trying to load a Word document into the Informix text field. From what I have read and understood this is one of the purposes of the text field. I am using the UNIX operating system of Informix. I tried using the load command and I keep getting errors. Has anyone done this? Also when using the load command, is there any way to load a file from your hard drive to Informix without having to FTP it to the Informix Unix server first? If you are using Informix 9.x, then you can use the Filetoblob or Filetoclob function to insert or update your file into the database. Use the former for binary files and the latter for text files. Also, you will want to use blob and clob types rather than byte or text. If you have ESQL/C you can load the file into the BLOB using Dynamic SQL and the LOCFILE or LOCFNAME method (see the ESQL/C manual in the Dynamic SQL section). You can even get ESQL/C for WinNT and create the load program to run on the client machines. BTW In TEXT type columns Informix expects ASCII printable characters so I would recommend using BYTE blobs, they are functionally the same actually. Art S. Kagel
