IIUG at Information on Demand in Las Vegas, NV?
Posted in 2009
Not a technical problem — a question about whether the IIUG would have any presence at IBM's Information on Demand conference in Las Vegas (Oct 2009). Answers: there was no formal IIUG event, but an informal Sunday poker party, an Informix reception, several Informix/user sessions, and a pedestal among IBM's booths, with board members around to meet. It was noted the official IIUG conference is the Kansas City event. The poster explained he chose IOD for its hands-on labs; a track chair invited specific tutorial requests (he asked for SDS and HDR topics under 11.5).

Good morning, I'm just curious if there will be any IIUG stuff going on at the IBM Information-on-Demand conference next week in Las Vegas, NV? Thanks. Jonathan B. YES, glad you asked. We are planning to have a not related to the conference private poker party sunday night, and I believe there will be an Informix reception on Monday night. All the Board of Directors for the IIUG will be there, come introduce yourself! Thanks! There are a bunch of Informix sessions, including a few user sessions, and the IIUG Board will be around from time-to-time. We have a pedestal among the IBM booths, but nothing specific. What are you looking for? The KC Conference is the official IIUG Conference. Art Art S. Thanks Art. Just looking to see other IIUG'ers there. Due to the budget crunch, it was either IOD or IIUG in KC. I picked IOD only because of the Hands-on-Labs IOD has. Maybe next year will be KC. I would love to see a room with some PC's or Laptops with Hands-on-Labs @ KC. Jonathan B. Talk to Jerry Keesee about it while you're in Vegas. Oh, and look for me around. KC last two years was fantastic! Looking forward to doing it all again in the spring. Art Art S. Jonathan, I know we usually have some tutorials which do allow hands on for new features. If you have some specific requests we can see if we can get someone to teach them. I also know that IBM usually has some UATs for some of the newer feature where you get to do some driving and give feedback. Thank-you David. There is strong interest at my organization for hands-on with SDS under 11.5, especially the multi-read / multi-write configuration. Also, options with HDR replication under 11.5. I have been through the hands-on with RSS, but what would be interesting is the possibility of HDR replication using non-SAN storage, as in internal/stand-alone disk storage with multiple writable HDR replicas. Just a topic for exploration / training. Jonathan B. Smaby Pomona College phone: (909) 621-8506 email: jonathan.smaby@pomona.edu web: http://www.facebook.com/jonathan.smaby Semper Paratus!
