THIS BOARD NEEDS A MODERATOR TO SCREEN POSTINGS...
Posted in 2009
Not a technical Informix problem: this is a flame thread. A poster who had emailed his resume to the IIUG list demanded the forum be moderated after being abused by a regular (Obnoxio), leading to insults, peacemaking posts and jokes. The only substantive points: garbled message text was blamed on certain mail clients (e.g. BlackBerry), and one member complained the list software doesn't thread messages and that his subscribe/unsubscribe request was stuck. Art Kagel advised emailing webmaster@iiug.org and said the IIUG board knows the forum software needs reworking but lacks time/money. No other resolution.

FROM JERKS LIKE OBNOXIO BEFORE THEY ARE PUBLISHED!.. OK, SO I COMMITTED A MISTAKE BY POSTING MY RESUME HERE, BUT SOME OF YOU NEED SOME GROWING UP TO DO! ALTHOUGH IBM HAS NO CONTROL OVER THIS BOARD,I HOPE THEY TAKE NOTICE OF SOME OF THE POSTINGS AND REPLIES LEFT ON THIS BOARD!

If so, I agree. As to OTC, I might point out he was replying to you flaming Kate, just because her email is apparently on the fritz. > > *********************************************************************** > ******** > Forum Note: Use "Reply" to post a response in the discussion forum.
I don't know what y'all see on your end, but when I pull up my initial posting, my resume is clearly legible.. when kate replied, it looked garbled up. I wasnt the one who initially garbled it. Anyway, I posted a copy of my res on the job board, sorry for all the inconvenience this caused, but this clown, obbnoxio needs to grow up!.. FYI, many INFORMIX/IBM prospective customers, who are also techies, peek at these user group boards to get an idea of what problems may exist with a product they are evaluating, besides looking at how group members help each other out in Q&A and problem-solving, so that says it all!

I'm not the one spamming every IIUG forum looking for a job. And when you've helped as many people on this forum as I have, you can fucking tell me how to behave. Until then, fuck off. -- Cheers, Obnoxio The Clown http://obotheclown.blogspot.com -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by OpenProtect(http://www.openprotect.com), and is believed to be clean.
I've been on the IIUG list going on 3 years now, and I've never had a problem. Yes, on rare occasion strange garbly ASCII test does appear, but that's why we have a delete button. Also, I'm very happy with the IIUG list service just as it is. I'm glad to be able to participate in this community with such outstanding individuals like Art, Obnoxio, Kate, Jerry, Jonathan L., and many other names in a list too long to mention in the message. I've been in a couple of tight jams that if I didn't have this list, I probably would have had to update my resume and find another career. And I'm sure we're all quite aware of the current economic conditions. And as for Obnoxio, I think he's great just as he is.... He's brightened my day just when I've needed it the most. Yes, I've gotten a jib-or-two, but I deserved it. Sorry you're having a bad experience Frank, but if you stick with it for a while, you'll get to understand the community here. It's one of the best lists I belong to, and I'm very grateful and proud of it (You guys rock!). Best Wishes.. "It is not life and its difficulties you have to conquer, only the self in you." Well if that's fine with you, its inexcusable and unprofessional with me! Just because someone is a great guru at solving other peoples problems doesnt give them the right to disrespect or use vulgar language anywhere, be it a user group board, work or the web, where millions of people can see it. We are all professionals, there'a a way of saying things, even if you disagree or get pissed off at someone else, but using an f-word on the most important user group board for IBM/INFORMIX is im sure, not the right forum for displaying insulting vulgarities! Many of you may have never heard of me, but i've been silently working with informix products since 1983, worked under Larry Rosler at AT&T-IS Labs, etc. etc. but I have never insulted anyone with vulgarities like this guy has, being a guru doesnt justify behaving like that, sorry!

In many places the phrased 'pissed off' if consider highly offensive :-) -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of FRANK ROTOLO Sent: Thursday, October 22, 2009 5:53 PM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: Re: RE: RE: THIS BOARD NEEDS A MODERATOR TO SC.... Frank my email was to just you - but that said... If you are looking for work I empathize with you - been there, it's no fun and not easy. Good luck. As I mentioned in my email to you, Obnoxio is a highly respected, very intelligent, staunch advocate of Informix and valuable member of this forum (now excuse me I just threw up in my mouth a little). Battling him is not a good idea - it is not a hill you want to die on - he was here first :-) This is a forum - not a board room. Relax - make up with Obnoxio and the rest of us. There are folks here who I am SURE can help you out. Mike
Fine, maybe some day I'll attend an area group meeting or even at the annual convention and meet him face to face.. in the meantime, i'll keep looking for work!
Just some friendly and caring advice (not looking to put down, guilt-trip, or humiliate) We have exactly two choices in life: A) "Seeking What Is Right": I Accept the things I cannot change, have the courage to change the things I can, and hopefully the wisdom to know the difference. I can also accept the world as it is, and not as I would have it. And I can use these principles to influence others, but not against their will. or B) "Seeking To Be Right": I can demand that others obey my wishes, desires, and needs or my particular brand of courtesy. I can also be miserable, alone, and alienated. I can use these principles to force others to my will, and drive them away. I spent the first 30 years of my life doing option B. I couldn't hold a job more than 6 months - 2 years, I would leave a path of destruction a mile-wide, and suffered many broken relationship, as well as poor career and life choices. The work and social environment has changed significantly in the, now, 20 years I've spent in Information Technology. People are far more relational then I've ever seen before, in fact, the inability to be relational even in technical fields, can be costly. And after having been through recovery for lots of issues, I now live under option A. Life has been a vastly improved. I've held a steady career in my field of expertise for 9 years now, and I would have never imagined that happening. Sometimes being called "Unprofessional" is just a cover for "You're not doing it my way!". My final comment on this thread is just a simple quote that says it all for me "You attract my bee's with honey, than with vinegar" Thanks, and best wishes / good luck with your career search! As to the forum problems, as a frequent poster, I agree. As a BOD member, I can say that we are looking at reworking the web site and forums, but it costs money and time, neither of which are in free supply in this economy.
