Locating a blob in memory
Posted in 1997
Hi Folks, I am spinning off the thread "blob: file vs. memory" to ask a related question. In ESQL, if I locate a blob in memory, I can access that nemory and do intelligent work against it. This is because I either set the location of the memory buffer or can find it using internal fields of the "locator" structure. However, in 4GL. if I locate it in memory, what in *&^! can I do with it? I see no 4Gl commands or functions to access the blob data once I have fetched it into memory. I can't even copy it to another buffer. This is relevant to me because I would like to store tracts of text in blobs and I'd like to display them in a huge wordwrap field in a window. I'd rather not have to locate it in a file and then run "more" on the file (which is what I'm doing now.)
