You can also stick it on a laptop for demos... (or :working by the poolside!) Yes indeed. Such suggestions on using Unix can also only (or at least mostly) serve to push those who do want to use NT away from Informix. The Informix community should not keep advocating Unix for all and every use of Informix. One may have any opinion one wants about NT, but for those who do intend to use it, Informix is in most cases the best database to run on it. It's very good now, but have the additional advantage that the Universal Server will soon be available. From ver. 7.3 on as I have understood it, all databases from Informix will be based on the Universal Server, even what is now the Workstation and Workgroup servers for NT and Unix. There will apperantly be scaled down versions, possibly without the option to run datablades, but beeing based on the same code, I assume they will use the new SQL (SQL 3?) and from that alone gain quite a lot of new functionality. The ability to upgrade to the full Universal Server is also a key issue. That's the future of relational databases, and it's functionality most everybody can utilize effectively and then need for high quality solutions. As all this will not be available from any competitors for quite some time (from some possibly never) it's a significant advantage for users of Informix. It makes Informix the best choice on NT as well as Unix.
