Steve,
I would recommend you have a look at Art Kagel's excellent 'dbcopy'
utility. It's available from the iiug site, and provides all manner of
options for transferring data between instances, databases and or
tables, without unloading and reloading to files. It would be
relatively simple to write a script that gets the full dbschema from one
instance, and executes it on another. Then cycle through all the
tables, dbcopying the data across, preferably in several parallel
streams.
As it happens, I have a script which does exactly this, including the
ability to produce subsets of big tables into a small test database.
Reply if you want some more detail on this.
Of course, having copied the schema across, you could populate using
onpload or dbload, but you still have to do it at the table level.
