7.3 Newbie. Problems!

I have been running Informix 4.10 se for a number of years and am now attempting to upgrade to 7.3 se. I have also upgraded from SCO Unix 3.2 to 5.05 Openserver. I have gone through the installation, installing 4gl, sql, and se in the order specified in the documentation, set the sqlhosts, services, hosts entries as prescribed, set all of the environmental variables as described. Permissions on the required directories and files are ok as far as I can determine. SQL works fine, I can attach to my database, do inquiries, etc. When doing a compilation, the program appears to compile ok, but when I run it, all I get is an error 25574, failure to open network device. The error appears to be on the MAIN statement. I have reduced the test program to nothing but a define using a database record, and an error message and I get the same result regardless. The error message in the documentation is not very helpful, as it says to check with my UNIX administrator. I am the UNIX administrator and I have no clue as to what the problem is. Another problem. Not crucial, as I can get around it manually, but it would be helpful if anyone could suggest a way to update my syspgm4gl.dbs files to work with 7.3 Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'd expect the compilation to fail too if you use the non-procedural database statement. Therefore, any explanation is suspect. I believe that on some SCO systems, you have to link a device name from /dev/net/tcp to /dev/tcp, except that I don't know whether net was the sub-directory or whether tcp was the device name. The release notes should cover that, of course, but since you are asking, I assume you've checked those. > The error > appears to be on the MAIN statement. However, I'd guess you'd have run into other problems if it was not -- that is not as clear cut an assumption as it would be with OnLine. > Another problem.
