I upgraded our RS/6000 back in December from AIX 4.1 to 4.3.3., doing a migration. The big problem I had was that our C/C++ compiler no longer worked. It was related somehow to the licensing program also. Upon calling IBM support, they remarked that our version of the compiler was no longer supported and that the only way they could support us is if we purchased the newest version. So we did, and upon installation (of this $3000.00 item), everything worked fine. I found out later that someone else had the same problem and determined that the AIX upgrade had changed the permissions of certain compiler files and they were able to correct this by changing those perms. I don't remember what files or what perms now. Needless to say, I wasn't too happy. If anyone has done this (or similar) and has any insights to share, I would appreciate hearing them. We will, of course, back up the world (if you have a sense of Deja Vu, it is just our backup), but if there are gotcha's to be avoided I would be profoundly grateful.
