Error Message in online.log file
Posted in 2014
On HP-UX, every logical-log event wrote an error to online.log: execve() of "/bin/sh ... alarmprogram.sh ..." failed with errno=2 (file not found), even though the alarm script existed and logical log backups were working. Suggestions included checking ALRM_ALL_EVENTS, running the command manually, and logging the script's output. The breakthrough came when Mike Walker asked whether /bin/sh itself existed: the poster's /bin symbolic link to /usr/bin had vanished. Recreating the link fixed the problem.

Hy everyone, I really don't know what is different in my environment now, but I since 3 weeks ago my online.log always get the follow message 07:45:54 Logical Log 91859 Complete, timestamp: 0x6f159f6f.07:45:54 execve() of "/bin/sh /bin/sh -c /informix/IDS/etc/alarmprogram.sh 2 23 "Logical Log 91859 Complete, timestamp: 0x6f159f6f." "Logical Log 91859 Complete, timestamp: 0x6f159f6f." "" 23001" failed errno=207:45:54 Error 2 occurred executing /bin/sh /bin/sh -c /informix/IDS/etc/alarmprogram.sh 2 23 "Logical Log 91859 Complete, timestamp: 0x6f159f6f." "Logical Log 91859 Complete, timestamp: 0x6f159f6f." "" 23001 I made my logical logs backup to a HPUX filesystem, and I can see that log is there. REBOOT ? I did it. STOP and START logical log backup? I made it too. But nothing change. Does anybody here ever saw a message like that ? Thans a lot André Luiz Rufino
Does /informix/IDS/etc/alarmprogram.sh exist? What happens when you run /bin/sh /bin/sh -c /informix/IDS/etc/alarmprogram.sh 2 23 "Logical Log 91859 Complete, timestamp: 0x6f159f6f." "Logical Log 91859 Complete, timestamp: 0x6f159f6f." "" 23001 ?? Hi André. What setting do you have for ALRM_ALL_EVENTS in the $ONCONFIG file? I have found "alarmprogram.sh" can loop if set to 1. Regards, Doug Lawry
The alarmprogram is returning non-zero. I suggest you capture any output to a file (normally discarded) by inserting a line in the "PUBLIC SECTION" at the top of the script such as: exec >> /tmp/alarmprogram.log 2>&1

WOW. My symbolic link to /usr/bin disappear. I recreated it and everything works fine.
