Blankdbaccess should be fully compatible with isql with the exceptions =
that it does not support isql froms, reports, and user menus. You =
should be able to modify scripts and replace isql by dbaccess. The =
reason for the two utilities is that originally the isql utility was a =
comprehensive system which could be used to develop simple database =
applications. dbaccess was introduced when the engine product was =
separated from the application products and is supplied with the =
database engine so that databases can be created, maintained, etc =
without needing to buy additional products.
If you have purchased the isql it is installed in much the same way as =
the engine is installed. i.e. you copy the files from the media to the =
hard disk and run an install script. But if you haven't bought isql you =
might be able to use a previous release of isql. Anyhting above version =
7 should be compatible with 9.3 . The problem is how to set the =
environment variables accordingly. I find it best to install the engine =
products in one directory and start them with INFORMIXDIR, ONCONFIG, and =
INFORMIXSERVER set to the appropriate values. To then use isql you only =
need to set INFORMIXDIR to the location of the isql installation, set =
INFORMIXSERVER to the same thing, and set INFORMIXSQLHOSTS to the =
etc/sqlhosts file for the database engine installation.
Hope this helps

Subject: Difference Between dbaccess & isql
Hi All,
We are working on Informix 9.3... Our current installation =
doesnot have isql utility... But our shell scripts have isql utility =
written in them... We have dbaccess installed... So can we modify our =
scripts which has isql with dbaccess & run them successfully???=20
Also let us know how do we install isql utility... Will that come =
along with the Informix Installation or is it a patch which need to be =
installed explicitly??? Thanks in advance
Regards,
