Accessing Oracle From Informix
Posted in 2009
A user asked whether IDS 10 on HP-UX could query an Oracle 10 database directly from stored procedures or synonyms, and what would be needed. Respondents answered that this requires the separately licensed Informix Enterprise Gateway Manager (EGM) — the only alternative being writing your own Oracle access module, which doesn't exist. Links to IBM's EGM page and the platform-availability spreadsheet were given, confirming builds for AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, Windows and Linux. A follow-up asking whether anyone had used EGM with SCO/IDS 7 or RedHat/IDS 11 against Oracle Express got no reply.

Hi All, Just two questions for you: Can Informix database access Oracle database from an Informix stored procedure and/or synonym? If this is possible, what do we need for? We are running IDS 10.0 on HPUX 11.23 IA64 & Oracle 10 on Win2003 Box. Regards. ISC. Luis Alejandro Martínez Mejía Jefe de Operación y Bases de Datos Grupo SID

You need the Informix Enterprise Gateway or you have to write a User Defined Table (UDT) module for Oracle (not available) yourself. Yes, there is a Linux build of EGM. You can consult Platform Availability for the Informix products, including the EGM, on this page: http://www-01.ibm.com/software/data/informix/pubs/roadmaps.html (on your right, there is an xls file that is kept up to date; link: 'Download the spreadsheet').
