RE: Raid 0 + 1 with SSA

Suggestion 2 sounds the best. Always try to keep your temp, root and log dbspaces on separate disks. As I stated in a previous article, not use to stripe 20 disks together when your backplane {bus} can only handle say 6 disks throughput. Do not stripe more disks together, than the max Data/s your backplane/bus can handle. Test with every config. E.g.. Test performance on one disk, say you get sustained 40 Meg/s Now Stripe 2 Disks together, say you get sustained 80 Meg/s Now Stripe 3 Disks together, say you get sustained 120 Meg/s Now Stripe 4 Disks together, still you get sustained 120 Meg/s No use to stripe more than 3 disks together. {Please note that this is platform depended} -----Original Message----- From: robmcq@my-deja.com [SMTP:robmcq@my-deja.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 05, 2000 11:56 PM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Raid 0 + 1 with SSA I have a question as to the best possible layout for an Informix instance. Here is the setup: 12 (9 GB) Disk Total 1 (9 GB) Disk Hot Swap 1 (9 GB) Disk For Future Use 10 (9 GB) Disk for Informix These are SSA drives 2 adaptors with two paths (loops) We would like to go RAID 0+1 We have two proposals: 1) One large 5 disk Array. Everything spread out everywhere. I claim contention here. My SA says otherwise. 2) One small 1 disk array (for rootdbs, llogdbs, etc...) and one 4 disk array (for data) Any recommendations would be helpful.
