Hi All, I have a question so please help, how can I know the exact space left on a raw device(a Hard Disk slice/partition that does not have a UNIX file system) so I can use it to add a chunk to an existing dbspace?? thanx... -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own
Kind of hate to tell you this if you've been using MS-DOS or WINDOWS but I believe the SUN SOLARIS command for partitioning up your physical disk into partitions and viewing partition size is "FORMAT". Or at least it was a couple of years back. Try typing in "man format " on your machine. This should give you some info on this command. After you use this to set up a non-filesystem portion of your physicl disk it will create a raw device link (normally /dev/r... or /rdev/...). This is what you create a link to before creating your chunk (the chunk should refer to your link file, not the raw device file). Hope this helps you.
