Clustered (XPS)- Informix Database Servers
Posted in 2000
I agree Art, the release of XPS versions of the Informix engine for Linux is a great step in the direction of getting people who never considered it into the hands of the people who will have to support it. But let's review real fast for those who aren't familiar: Informix SE - SqlExec, filesystem based, single threaded. Informix IDS- Shared memory, shared connection per process, multithreaded. Informix XPS- Shared "nothing" network distributed "instances" Informix UDS- IDS, with object support, ORDBMS The XPS roughly fills the gap in product numbers between 7.X (IDS) and 9.X (UDS) so XPS is known as Informix 8.X So where 7.X and 9.X "have" to run on a single machine, but "could" support replication.. 8.X actually run "pieces" of an instance all over the network on different machines.. or could. Just in case anyone's newer to this list than me, quite hard to believe, really, but there it is.
