Mario Estrada replied to my query asking : Q) What kind of errors does the loader program looks at ( duplicate values? ) (data integrity ?) # The loader program does not check anything except that there is a unique index on the table, so that is one check Q) It seems like your engine is experimenting the long transaction problem. # I did not understand the experimenting statement Q) Is the loader program written in gupta ? # No, the loader program is in Informix 4GL Q) If this is a script, would you post it ? # I will once that @#!%^& programmer finds it. A lot of mods were made to the original one and the error was also trapped ... To your reply Mario (case history below), I want to point out that I am aware of the programmer errors and the problem is solved, but the my question actually is that how can an application which goes into a recursive loop trying to load data into a table, bring the engine down. And this happened consistently. I could not bring the engine back up, as it just stayed in recovery mode for more than 2.5 days ( and I had to abort the process ) and finally I had to initialize a new dbspace and restore from backup. I dont want to believe this can happen, as this makes the database engine very fragile... What kind of errors does the loader program looks at ( duplicate values ? ) (data integrity ?), I seems like your engine is experimenting the long transaction problem. Is the loader program written in gupta ? If this is a script, would you post it ?, I can't imagine that an upgrade to the engine would solution your problem, I mean it is a load of data with something checking !, may be the one who wrote the application made a mistake !!!
