Informix Online Problem

We are having a problem with Informix Online 4.10 which did not seem to manifest itself under the Standard Engine. The problem occurs when a user is updating a record while someone else is running a posting (batch update) program. I have changed the posting program to hold all database writes (the program only updates) until the end of a group and then perform a commit work immediately after (this is an invoice printing program and all it's doing is flipping a flag). The rows that are being updated (and presumably locked, too) by the screen program are not the same rows that are being processed by the posting program.
