Salesman

It seems that it is a waste of time speaking to Informix Salesman (at least in the UK). One of them (I'll with-hold his name for the present) appeared on site with our Informix distributor. The latter said very little, the former said a great deal. During the meeting, I stated that I wasn't very happy with Informix's response to requests, and I gave the fellow quite a hard time. I E-mailed him later, expressing my thanks for putting up with my "attitude" and said I looked forwards to a reply in due course when he had looked into the points I had made. This was more than two months ago. The E-mail message has not bounced and there has been nothing in reply. Woe betide the next person from Informix to enter the premises because I shall make my feelings known and simply not bother to waste my time listening to the drivel. I would be quite willing to accept a response stating that whilst my requests/opinions had been considered, they could not be catered for for such and such a reason, but complete silence shows a complete disregard for our position as an ISV. The major thing I asked. Just what does this assurance give us. As far as I can tell, all it means is that we now pay for the privilige of getting a discount on upgrades, which we used to get anyway. Consequently, it's no discount at all and why should we, or our clients, bother to keep up with the latest versions when it is so expensive to move up. Here at Bartec, we are activly upgrading our clients from Sun 3's to SPARCS, but not if they have a database, unless they specifically ask. Both Informix and we are, therefore, losing out on the business. Thanks a lot! Why have I posted this to the long suffering 'Net? Because it seems a good public barracking is the only way to get any response out of anybody at all at Informix, and even then, it only goes as far as salving your anger at the previous lack of response. It certainly never "once and for all" gives a definitive answer. The last I heard, my request for InformixLink to be put on the 'Net was being passed on to "The States". There has been neither a positive or negative response since. Perhaps someone will respond to the above points, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Yours apopleptically Neil S. Briscoe -- Neil S.
