So, I checked. You are both right. as Paul says, $INFORMIXDIR/etc/*-cr
gives only the version number, not the serial number, but as Mark points
out, dbaccess -v (or -V) gives both engine version and serial number.
This is much quicker than going through the gyrations of reading
the .snfile.
