Connect equivalent in 4gl ?

Hello! I want to make a client-server connection between 2 Informix-4gl 7.2 (RDS) under SCO 5.0.5. machine A: program.4gi machine B: database server DBACCESS has the CONNECT sentence but 4GL has not. I would like to show a window asking for user and password, but what would I do after that ??? nothing?? It seems to me that the only way to establish the connection is having the correct information in /etc/hosts.equiv or $HOME/.netrc. am I right? do I have any other possibilities?
