Hi, Does anyone have a softcopy of this Gartner doc? -Chris "rkusenet" <rkusenet@sympatico.ca> Sent by: owner-informix-list@iiug.org 06/03/2004 11:16 AM Please respond to "rkusenet" <rkusenet@sympatico.ca> To informix-list@iiug.org cc Subject Re: database market share 2003 "scottishpoet" <dryburghj@yahoo.com> wrote > In the UNIX segment of the database market, Gartner said sales fell > 5.9% to $2.34 billion last year as most of the leading vendors > declined. Even assuming that all of those 140 million is on Unix, it means sales of Db2 on unix has overtaken Informix. Interesting. Only last year or so I read that Informix was still outselling Db2 in Unix despite step child treatment by IBM. sending to informix-list

I calculated the figure from this article http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1605396,00.asp It mentions Informix's share as 1.9% of database market (7.1 billion). That makes Informix sales to 140 million. To calculate, the sales of DB2 in Unix, read this:- " In the UNIX segment of the database market, Gartner said sales fell 5.9% to $2.34 billion last year as most of the leading vendors declined. Oracle's new license sales fell 8.3% to $1.34 billion, or 57.4% share; while IBM's sales fell 5.8% to $586.5 million, or 25.1% share. " That makes 440 million to DB2. Given that an article in iiug mentions that aproximately 40% of informix sales were in Linux, it makes informix on unix less than 100 million. Why are we guys even interested in this product any more ?
