Datatype IfxMRData with DBD::Informix

Hello I try do access the data type IfxMRData from the Excalibur Datablade under Informix 9.14.UC7 with the Perl library DBD::Informix 1.00. So far I can update and insert this type but the select does not bring the whole part of the field. The field is truncated. I read the FAQ of the Informix Driver 1.00 and followed the advise to use the prepare statement with the place holder ? for inserting and updating for avoiding the 256 character limit of esql-C. Is the 256 character limit the reason why the field is truncated? Is there a workaround for this? Thanks for helping Herbie
