I think so... assuming the following: 1. You don't have any prohibitive firewalls between the machine running the applet and the database. If this is for intranet use, that may be the case... but if it is for the internet, you most likely will have a firewall up. 2. The database is on the same machine as the web server. The Java security model (the sandbox), will only allow applets open connections back to the machine that downloaded the applet.
