Hello, If i do select ascii("E") from table_name on IDS 11.10 ( db_locale en_us)i get some constant output. But when i do select ascii("E") from table_name (same table as that in 11.10) on IDS 9.40 (LANG=de_DE.UTF-8) i get message as 674: Routine (ascii) can not be resolved. Please guide Is there any equivalent function to ascii in 9.40, does it has to do any thing with the locale for the db. Please HELP ! Thaanking you all Vikas.
is ascii() is valid for 8Bit ASCII characters, UTF8 are 2 Byte characters. Back in 2005, I believe I posted some code to provide ASCII functionality. It is designed around single-byte codesets, and won't work so well for UTF-8, though. Look for a file 'ascii.tgz', possibly in the IIUG Software archive. Or look for files 'ascii.unl', 'ascii.sql', and 'asciitbl.sql'. 'chr.sql', and 'mkascii.sql'. -- Jonathan Leffler #include <disclaimer.h> Email: jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com Guardian of DBD::Informix v2008.0229 -- http://dbi.perl.org/ "Blessed are we who can laugh at ourselves, for we shall never cease to be amused."
