I can think of no reason why raw devices would not work - which may show a lack of imagination but probably doesn't. Shared Disk Secondaries (SDS nodes) can be added to a system with minimal setup because the disk information is already set up - because it is shared. The downside is that if the shared disks themselves become unusable, then all the SDS nodes using those disks become unusable, whereas in a classic HDR setup, you have a second set of disks that can be used even when the first set goes down. This is a reasonable trade-off; disk drives are pretty reliable. But you must be aware of the trade-offs. -- Jonathan Leffler #include <disclaimer.h> Email: jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com Guardian of DBD::Informix v2008.0513 -- http://dbi.perl.org/ "Blessed are we who can laugh at ourselves, for we shall never cease to be amused."
