Pascale,
A lot of this depends on what kind of database you are
using....Is this a datawarehouse, etc....
For onbar you need to have a storage manager installed, ADSM,
ISM, etc...For ontape all you need to have is a tape drive(or hard
disk in dire matters) accessible to the machine. If you want to use
On-Archive(.....you are a sadistic SOB :) heh...If the size of the
database is easily manageable then in my opinion ontape would be
the best choice. For larger instances (20+gig) onbar would be the best
application.
Each system has it's advantages/disadvantages (ontape, quick
and easy...onbar, a bit of setup time, On-Archive---hell)
All in all i think onbar is the best choice, provided you have
the neccessary components. If you have any questions, feel free to
email me at brian_foster@vfc.com.
Other considerations include maintainence downtime (If you get
any...). User queries, batch jobs...etc...
If you have a bad disk, obviously onbar, ontape or any other
archive/restore program can't fix it. As long as you are using
symbolic links(and have extra disk) just about any&everything can be
restored.
