We have tables with up to about 1 million rows with excelent performance on a sinlge processor 100 MHz Pentium running SCO Unix and OnLine 7.10. We haven't proven that 10's of millions of rows are possible, even on a mulitprocessor SCO machine. It may depend on what you want to do with your data. Anybody else have this much data on an SCO server? However our experience now tells us you should go with nothing but the big brand name suppliers of servers that also have excelent support of the SCO operating system. Unless you are yourself a very experienced SCO VAR you realy need this support from someone who also know Informix OnLine 7.xx well. You also need to know that the combination of SCO Open Server 5 Enterprice, OnLine 7.xx and the server you select works well together. For us SCO 5 is still a little new in a mission critical setting. SCO 3.2.4.2 (the previous version) may not be the best selection for this kind of large database. You might find it difficult to find a truly professionally supported combination like this. Also be aware that Informix themselves does not seem to love SCO and you need to check that their local service organization can support you. You shouldn't rule out the other Unix alternatives (HP, Sun...). These *may* not deliver much higher performance than an SCO alternative with the newest hardware, but the support issue is so important you may find this your only real alternative. We use Compaq ProLiant servers as well as a local major supplier of PC's (Cinet), but other alternatives may exist in your area.
