Bad log tape

Gentleman and Ladies, After a hardware problem on one of our systems running Informix OnLine 5.0 we were able to restore the database from an archive tape, but one of the log tapes were unreadable. The error we received was "Bad Tape". Just prior to the problems occuring on this system we began receiving SCSI bus timeouts and harderrors from one of the disks. Possibly the SCSI bus problems may have contributed to the corruption of the log tape (So as to not make this a long winded posting I won't go into detail). The question is - Is there any way of reading past a bad "header" or such on a log tape, If there is, is it possible for informix to use the tape at this point ? Also, to eliminate a bad log tape as a point of failure in the restoration process, one our staff recommended a mirroring tape unit. Any comments / insight ? Is anyone using this type of setup. Any other possiblities in dealing with this issue ?
