If the backup was done with ontape, then yes you want the DB to be offline
and shut down (onmode -yuk) and then run the command ontape -r to start the
restore.
This is with INFORMIX-Universal Server Version 9.14.UC6. I assume it would
be similar with 7.30.
After the restore, check the status with onstat - -r 10 and when the engine
gets in quiescent mode, bring it back on-line with a onmode -my. Don't be
surprised if you have to wait ~20 minutes or longer for it to get into
quiescent mode.
This is from my experience this week. And I don't back up the logs. Your
milage may vary.
