NETTYPE

I get the following error occasionally on my IDS7.3 box:
10:29:28 listener-thread: err = -25573: oserr = 72: errstr = : Network
driver cannot accept a connection on the port.
System error = 72.
I talked with IBM and they had me run onstat -u which yielded ~1000 maximum
concurrent connections.
He suggested changing the NETTYPE in onconfig.ows from
NETTYPE soctcp,1,200,CPUTO
NETTYPE soctcp,4,1000,CPU
But in reading "INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server Handbook" by Carlton Doe it
said that the number of poll threads (the first number) can be set higher
than the number of CPU VPS that I have. Which I believe is 2. (I got this
from onconfig.ows setting NUMCPUVPS 2 and from onstat -g glo returned that
the cpu class had 2 vps)
Should the setting for NETTYPE be changed to
NETTYPW soctcp,2,1000,CPU
Instead?
Rob,
Try
NETTYPE soctcp,1,300,CPUor
NETTYPE soctcp,2,200,CPUand see if it changes things. I would hesitate to plug in the 1000 value!

What was odd to me was that it is set to 1,100 and 2
CPUVPS. Which would
allow for 200 concurrent connections. For the past two years we have been
around ~1000 maximum concurrent connections. How can the server report that
I have had a maximum of ~1000 concurrent connections when it is specifically
set not to allow more than 200 concurrent connections?

I see two problems here...
You CAN set the number of poll threads higher than the NUMCPUVPS, but then
they will be started on NETvps instead. You should have rec'd a msg in the
msg log about this. One poll thread per CPUVP is the rule, or was for a
long time.
Secondly, the NETTYPE soctcp,4,1000,CPU means 1000 users per poll thread
(4000 users), and run each poll thread on a CPUVP. This is traditionally a
very high number of users to support per poll thread, but maybe someone
else can comment about attempting this in very large environments.

Rob,
If you could tell me what OS you are on we could figure out what oserr =
72 means. On UNIX systems these error codes are usually in
/usr/include/errno.h or /usr/include/sys/errno.h.
