We are in the process of re-evaluating our choice of RDBMS. We currently run Oracle on a 486 Tricord, under SCO Unix. We are looking at staying with a UNIX platform (probably), running in a client/server mode (most likely), under Windows (we hope). We need to move up, which means if we stay with Oracle, a very serious chunk of money. We want to take another look at our options and make sure that we pick one that we can live with for years to come. My questions are: 1. Has anyone had experience with ORACLE, INGRES, or MICROSOFT ACCESS and if so, how does it stack against INFORMIX (good, bad, or indifferent)? 2. Has anyone converted FROM Oracle to Informix, and how did that go and why did you convert? 3. Has anyone converted TO Oracle from Informix? Again - why did you convert, and how did it go? 4. If you had to pick your favorite database package to work with, what would it be and why. 5. And finally, does any one know the size of the largest Informix database is? We are curious. I would appreciate any and all responses. You can send responses to me and if anyone else out there are equally interested, I can compile a summary and distribute it to the list. Thanks! Jill A.
