Of course dynamic SQL is supported by Informix, not only in 5.0 but in the earlier versions as well. Get your manual and read the chapter about "Dynamic SQL" and cursors. There you will be told the procedure with DECLARE, DESCRIBE, PREPARE, OPEN and so on. For your problem you even wouldn't need the DESCRIBE statement (the only not trivial part of the game).
