upper function for Informix SE 7.23.UC1

hi, did somebody created an upper function for the informix SE 7.23 UC1 ??? i tried to create my own upper-function, but i get in trouble creating this procedure! 1.) is it possible to convert between char and integer - types! ( i don`t know how!) i tried the following without success in 4gl the following statment is possible, but it won`t work with stored procedures define x char(1); define y int; let y = x; <--- ERROR 2.) and second , it isn`t possible to get a variable substring. a short example: define x char(100); define y char(1); define i int; for i = 1 to length(x) let y = x[i,i] <--- this statement raises an error let y = x[1,1] <-- works, but don`t solves the problem end for if somebody allready realizes a upper function, please let me know it ! thanxs to all for any help !!!!! please send email to mailto:ingo@strauss-in.com ingo
